Conducting Real-life Bottle Drop Test as per IS: 7028 Standard

Bottle packaging is the most in-demand product which is widely used for packing variety of contents. It is used in medical and pharmaceuticals, chemical companies, Food & Beverages Company etc. There is no stopping or turning back. The bottle packaging have been covering more and more industries. With such increasing demand, rises the need of higher quality assurance. This comes in many ways, which is the material of which the bottle is made, its quality. The quality of resistance strength against buckling load and how it will behave if dropped from a height.

From all those above quality factors, the most common one which can happen anytime and anywhere is the bottles getting dropped. While the containers are kept in storage at several heights sometimes and while loading before transit and during the transporting, they are prone to face jerks. During such jerks it is very easy to fall off and get damaged. To see how a bottle will behave if such situations are encountered, it must get checked or tested using a standardized Drop Tester. The testing machine is used for assessing or predict the ability of bottles to sustain the drops encountered by them. It allow bot straight or normal drop and also angular drop feature is available with specially designed clamps to hold the sample at defined angle as per industry requirements. This helps in assessing the drop from all possible angles.

It is also suitable for testing jars, cans, cardboard boxes and all type of related objects. The machine is designed under IS: 7028 Pt IV. The test standard accumulates all possible methods of a drop which a specimen can face and standardize the test so that it can be approved throughout the world. Guide mechanism is utilized by the operator to lift the test platform in upward and downward direction. This is required for setting the drop height for the specimen. The base plate is made strong enough to carry heavy sample and do not make movements during the test.

The drop height can be adjusted from minimum 750mm to maximum 1800mm. This is considered to be an ideal range of drop test method. It can take up to 50 kg weight of the test sample.
